Philosophy Café: Animal Rights/Ethics of Vegetarianism

8 February 2017 (Wed), 4.30-6pm
At Cendana Student Commons

Hosted by Dr Zohar Lederman. Oysters-to eat or not to eat? Apes are ‘inferior people’ so we can’t eat them, obviously. Pigs are smarter than dogs-they are even able to use a joystick. Cows suffer pain and calves are distressed when they are (necessarily) separated from their mothers. Chickens spend their lives in a space that is less than an A4 page. But oysters? Really?

Dr Zohar Lederman is a medical doctor and a bioethics PhD candidate at the National University of Singapore. His PhD focuses on the ethics of One Health and culling as a public health measure.
